Where to stay on Lake Garda: 5 selected hotels
Location matters more than the star count at Lake Garda. We selected five addresses ranging from an active hotel in Arco to a luxury resort above Gargnano. We have stayed at VIVERE several times; the other four are researched places on our radar.

The northern shore
Arco: VIVERE for privacy, HOODY for active value.
Arco is a practical base for cycling, climbing and trips around northern Garda. It is not on the shore, but evenings are quieter, parking is easier and the Sarca cycle paths are close.
VIVERE · €€€ · personally tested
Six suites with private entrances and gardens, four with kitchenettes. A pool, vineyard, bicycles and the quiet edge of Arco make it our choice for a longer stay.

A four-star sports hotel with bike storage and workshop, e-bike charging and an MTB wash. We would choose it for a shorter active break at a lower budget than VIVERE.

Directly on the water
AQVA in Sirmione and historic Locanda San Vigilio.
Choose these when you want to see the lake from breakfast until evening. AQVA is small and modern; Locanda San Vigilio is historic and best suited to a special occasion.
AQVA Boutique Hotel · €€€ · on our radar
An adults-only hotel with eighteen rooms, a garden, pool and direct lake access. It is within walking distance of the castle and thermal baths, and we are planning to stay.
Official website ↗Locanda San Vigilio · €€€€ · on our radar
A historic inn on Punta San Vigilio with thirteen rooms and suites, a private harbour, restaurant and large park. It suits a quiet seasonal stay rather than daily drives around the lake.
Official website ↗Access
Season affects both Sirmione and Punta San Vigilio. Check parking, arrival instructions and whether you can move around on foot or by boat before booking.

A full wellness stay
Lefay above Gargnano: when the resort is the destination.
The western shore is greener and quieter than the main northern and southern centres. Lefay sits above Gargnano and builds the stay around lake views, wellness and time spent on the property.
Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda · €€€€ · on our radar
A luxury all-suite resort with an approximately 4,300 m² spa and broad lake views. We recommend it when two or three days are dedicated to the hotel rather than simply sleeping there.
Official website ↗How we would choose
HOODY for active value, VIVERE for privacy and cycling, AQVA for walkable Sirmione, San Vigilio for history by the water, and Lefay for wellness.
How many nights
Allow three or four nights for one base. Combine north and south only on a trip of five to seven nights.

Short answers to the questions we would ask before choosing this direction.
Which part of Lake Garda is best for cycling?
We would base ourselves in Arco, Riva or Torbole. The network is broad, but route profile, weather and closures should always be checked.
Is it better to stay directly on the lake?
For evening walks, yes. For privacy and quiet, a home among vines a few kilometres inland may be more rewarding.
How many nights make sense at Lake Garda?
Three nights on one shore is the minimum. Allow five to seven nights to combine north and south.
