We would not build an itinerary around the number of lookout towers. A day in the forest, another between gardens and town, and energy left for the evening make a better rhythm. The new accommodation alternatives are editorial selections; our personal Zikmundov story remains separate.
For couples and friends who want nature, town life and time to unwind.
- How long to stay
- 2–3 nights, with one forest day and one town day.
- When to go
- Spring or autumn; in winter, build your plans around the town and museum rather than assuming the castle will be open.
- The trade-off
- Slovácko is not a single village. The vineyards around Kyjov or Bořetice are some distance away, rather than a quick stop around the corner.
The key decision
Where would you like to begin and end the day?
We know Zikmundov firsthand. Buchlovice is practical for the château, Uherské Hradiště for café mornings, and Boršice for a wine evening with an overnight stay.
Our firsthand experience of Zikmundov →
| Place to stay | Who it suits | The main difference |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel Buchlov | Chřiby and spa time. | Closer to the forest, further from a morning café. |
| Hotel Buchlovice | A shorter stay with standard hotel facilities. | A château town rather than a forest setting by the castle. |
| Dvůr pod Starýma Horama | A wine weekend in one place. | The winery is the main evening attraction. |
| Penzion Na Dlouhé | Café mornings and a practical base. | A walkable town rather than seclusion. |

A plan with room for a detour
How we would put the stay together.
Arrive in Buchlovice
MorningPlan your arrival around the actual journey and visitor opening hours.
AfternoonCombine the centre, château grounds and a café stop. If you arrive late, leave the interiors for the next day.
EveningCheck dinner near your base in advance; restaurants in the forest may not serve late.
Buchlov and the forest, weather permitting
MorningTake a castle tour according to your booking and the current calendar.
AfternoonIn dry weather, you can continue towards Barborka. Keep the shorter option near the castle. Exact distances can only be given once you have chosen a mapped circuit.
EveningBook spa access. A wine evening in Boršice comes after the day’s final drive or bicycle ride.
Uherské Hradiště, starting with a good breakfast
MorningStart in a town café. BO Café is one specific option in the Slunce arcade.
AfternoonThe town centre and the main building of Slovácké muzeum; alternatively, make a separate visit to the Great Moravia Memorial in Staré Město.
EveningLeave without another detour, or enjoy one last free evening at your base.
Good places to stop for food.
BO Café
Specialty coffee and something sweet during a day in town.

Non-residents should confirm a table in advance.

Rainy days and shorter options
The main building of Slovácké muzeum in Smetanovy sady and a café. The museum gallery is closed for a long-term renovation; it is a different building.
On a first visit
Buchlovice, Buchlov and Uherské Hradiště are enough.
On a return visit
Swap the town day for a winery in Boršice or a longer, checked forest route.
Practical details before you go
When checked, roof repairs at Buchlovice were under way, potentially restricting access. After rain, the forest needs different footwear from a town square. We do not promise that the entire plan is suitable for pushchairs.
